Every AI video tool publishes a price and almost none of them publish the number you actually need, which is what one finished, publishable clip costs by the time it is out the door.
I generate three vertical videos a day for a fashion store and six country accounts, so this is a number I watch closely. Here is what Kling 3.0 costs on my own account this week, measured rather than quoted, and how it stacks up against the model I currently default to.
The headline: Kling bills by the second
The thing to understand about Kling 3.0 Turbo is that there is no per-clip price. There is a per-second rate, and it changes with resolution only. I preflighted these on my own balance rather than reading them off a pricing page:

Perfectly linear. There is no volume discount hiding in a longer clip and no penalty for a short one — a 15-second clip costs exactly three times a 5-second clip. That matters more than it sounds, because it kills the usual instinct to generate long and trim. If you only need six seconds, generate six seconds; you are not leaving anything on the table.
The 1080p step is the only real decision. Going from 720p to 1080p is a flat 33% uplift per second. On a 9:16 clip that will be watched on a phone inside a feed that recompresses everything anyway, I have never been able to justify it.

Seedance 2.0 Mini takes reference images, video references and audio references, and that is what keeps the same jacket looking like the same jacket across six cuts of a product ad. For a fashion clip where the product must be recognisable, that consistency is the entire deliverable, and 15 extra credits is a rounding error against re-rendering something that came back wrong.

Where the money actually goes
The render is rarely the expensive part. On a typical finished ad of mine the credits break down roughly like this:
- The clip itself — 22.5 to 37.5 credits depending on model.
- Reference or start-frame images — a couple of credits each, and I usually need one to three.
- The re-render you did not plan for — this is the real cost centre.
That last line is the whole game. A clip that comes back with the wrong garment, a mangled hand, or text the model invented in frame four is a total loss, and it costs exactly what the good one cost. Two failures on a 37.5-credit model wipe out every credit you saved by picking a cheaper one.
So the honest way to compare models is not credits per second. It is credits per usable clip: the rate divided by your hit rate on that model for the kind of shot you actually make. A model at 1.5 credits a second that you throw away half the time costs 3.0. A model at 2.5 that lands nine times in ten costs 2.8.
Measure your own hit rate before you switch anything. Mine differs by shot type, not by model reputation.
Practical rules I use
Generate at the length you will publish. Linear pricing means there is no reason to over-generate and trim.
Stay at 720p for vertical social. The 33% uplift buys detail the feed's own compression removes. Reserve 1080p for anything that will be watched on a desktop or cut into a longer edit.
Pick the model by input, not by price. If the shot needs a product to stay consistent, you need reference-image support and Kling Turbo's single start frame will not give it to you. If the shot is atmosphere, b-roll, or a scene you are describing from scratch, Turbo is the cheaper right answer.
Preflight the cost before you submit. Every generation call I make asks for the price first. It takes a second, it costs nothing, and it means a misconfigured duration or resolution never turns into a surprise on the balance.
Keep a floor on the balance. I hold back a reserve for the image generation my blog needs, so a heavy render night cannot leave the written side of the business unable to publish. A hard floor is more useful than good intentions.

What about the unlimited tier?
Worth saying plainly, because it caught me out: an unlimited or free-trial allowance is per model and time-limited, not a property of your plan. Mine covered Seedance 2.0 Mini for a while and then lapsed, and the same call that had been free started billing credits. Nothing announced it. The only reliable check is to query the model's own availability before a batch rather than assuming last month's arrangement still holds.
If your pipeline quietly depends on a free tier, put a check in front of it that fails loudly, or you will find out from the balance instead.
The short version
Kling 3.0 Turbo is 1.5 credits per second at 720p and 2.0 at 1080p, billed linearly with no clip minimum. That makes it about 40% cheaper per second than Seedance 2.0 Mini, which is the right trade when you are generating a described scene and the wrong one when a specific product has to stay recognisable across cuts. Generate at publish length, stay at 720p for vertical, preflight every cost, and judge models on credits per usable clip rather than the sticker rate.
