TikTok Shop rewards one thing above everything else: a steady supply of video against your catalogue. Not one brilliant video — a supply. That is exactly the constraint an AI video generator removes, and exactly the constraint most sellers are stuck behind.
I run this daily for a clothing catalogue. Below is the workflow that works, the platform rules that will bite you if you ignore them, and the two mistakes that cost me the most time.
Why video supply is the bottleneck
A TikTok Shop listing with no video attached is a product page competing on a video surface. You need clips per product, per angle, per season — and if each clip requires a shoot, a model and an edit, you will cover a fraction of your catalogue and then stop.
My cost per finished 15-second vertical clip is roughly 40 credits of render, plus nothing, because every finishing step — voiceover, captions, music, end card — runs locally with ffmpeg. At that price, covering a catalogue is a scheduling problem rather than a budget problem.
The workflow, end to end
- Start from the real product photo. Generate the reference image from the actual listing photo of that exact variant, never from a written description. If the clip shows a neckline the buyer will not receive, you have bought a return.
- Render vertical, 9:16, 720p, 15 seconds. Higher resolution is a waste here — the platform re-encodes your upload and the feed is consumed on phones.
- Finish locally. Voiceover, plain captions in the lower third, a music bed, and a two-second brand card at the end.
- Write the caption with the product link. Every clip carries the link. A video that people cannot buy from is content, not commerce.
- Schedule it. Never publish inline, and never fire the whole batch at once.

Three per account per day, and no more
This is the rule I wish someone had told me directly. More than three videos on the same account on the same day suppresses the reach of the others. It is not additive; the fourth clip does not add a fourth clip's views, it taxes the first three.
So a batch of nine becomes three today, three tomorrow, three the day after. It feels slow and it is not — spread over three days that batch outperforms the same nine dumped in an afternoon.
There is a second, harder limit worth designing around: publishing is rate limited to roughly two posts per ten minutes. When you hit it, the correct response is to wait out the window and then continue, not to retry in a loop and not to quietly drop the remainder of the batch. Half a published batch is the failure mode that hides best.
Label AI content properly, not just in the caption
A line of text in the description saying "AI-generated" is not the AI label. The platform has a real flag, and it has to be set on the upload itself.
In practice this means passing the AI-generated-content flag on both steps of the publish flow — the prepare call and the publish call. Setting it on one and not the other is the bug I hit, and it is silent: the post goes out looking fine and simply is not labelled.
Set the branded-content flag too where the clip promotes your own products. Getting this right is cheap now and expensive to retrofit across a catalogue's worth of published clips.

Never advertise a product nobody can buy
The single most costly mistake I have made in this pipeline had nothing to do with video quality.
On a dropship catalogue, variants sometimes carry inventory tracking with a quantity of zero. Those variants show as out of stock and cannot be purchased. On my best-selling garment, 25 of 45 variants were in that state — the click landed, the buyer picked their colour, and the size they wanted said sold out.
Check every variant's availability before you put a product into the video rotation. A clip driving traffic to a listing that cannot convert is worse than no clip, because it costs you the impression and the buyer's patience at the same time.
One master, many cuts
If you sell into more than one market, re-cut rather than re-render. Translate the script and the on-screen cards, generate a new voiceover, swap the end card, keep the pixels. The render — the only real cost — is paid once.
Two warnings. Translated card text expands, and a line that fits the frame in English will run off the edge in German or Dutch; measure the rendered width and wrap onto two or three rows rather than shrinking the font until it is unreadable. And never post the identical file to two accounts. Identical content across accounts run by one person is a spam signal, and a lost handle costs more than a re-cut.
The short version
Generate from the real product photo, render cheap and vertical, finish locally for free, and put the link in every caption. Cap yourself at three posts per account per day and spread the batch. Set the AI label on both publish steps, not in the caption. Verify every variant is actually purchasable before the product enters rotation.
None of that is about making a better video. It is about making a supply of adequate videos reach a buyable listing, which is the part that pays.
