I run two Shopify stores and I generate every piece of video for both of them. Not "mostly" — every single clip that goes out on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube is generated, dubbed and captioned by a pipeline, and then scheduled automatically. Over the last month that came to 1,367 published posts built from 460 distinct clips.

So this isn't a roundup of tools I opened once. It's what actually holds up when the same store needs three new videos a day, forever, and nobody is available to babysit a render.

The mistake almost everyone makes first

The first thing people do is take a product photo, feed it to a video model, and post the result. It looks fine. It sells nothing.

The reason is that a rotating product on a clean background isn't content — it's a product page that moved. Nobody stops scrolling for it, so it never gets past the first few seconds of distribution, and the algorithm reads that as a weak post and stops showing it.

What works instead is embarrassingly simple: put the product on a person, in a real place, doing something ordinary. A garment walking down a street outperforms the same garment spinning on a white background by a margin that isn't close. Every winning clip I have follows that pattern; almost none of the losers do.

What a Shopify-specific pipeline actually needs

Generating the clip is the easy part now. The parts that break are the ones nobody writes about.

The product has to be recognisable. If the video shows a garment that isn't the one on the product page, you get the click and lose the sale, and you've paid for both. I generate from the variant's own original photo — never from a text description of it — and I visually diff the neckline and sleeve region against the source before anything ships. Text-to-video from a prose description of your product will confidently invent a different product.

The caption needs the actual product URL. Obvious, and still the single most common thing missing. A beautiful clip pointing at your homepage sends people to browse instead of to buy.

No prices burned into the pixels. I learned this one the hard way. Text rendered into a video cannot be edited after publishing, and prices move. The price belongs on the product page; the video's job is to get them there.

Localisation, if you sell across borders. Both my stores run country accounts, and the rule that matters is that each one gets its own video at its own time in its own language. Posting the identical clip to sibling accounts on the same schedule is a spam signal, and the platforms act on it.

Which generator I'd actually pick

For Shopify product video specifically, the ranking is different from the general "best AI video generator" lists, because you care about one narrow thing: does the product survive the generation?

Volume is the actual strategy

Here's the part that took me longest to accept. Individual clips are close to unpredictable. I cannot look at a finished video and tell you whether it will do 400 views or 40,000, and I've been wrong in both directions often enough to stop trying.

What is predictable is the aggregate. Three good clips a day, every day, across four platforms, produces a steady stream of winners — you just don't get to choose which ones. That reframes the whole problem: you're not trying to make one perfect video, you're trying to make a system that can't stop producing decent ones.

Which means the constraint isn't creative. It's throughput, scheduling, and not breaking your accounts. Cap yourself at three posts per platform per day — more than that and the extra posts cannibalise the earlier ones. Schedule rather than publish live, and spread the times out.

Wiring it into Shopify

Two integration points are worth the effort, and both are easy to skip.

Put the video on the product page. Generated clip as the second media item, straight after the main image. It's the same asset you already made, it costs nothing extra, and it converts on the page where the decision actually happens.

Use the generated lifestyle still as the first product image. The frame that made a good video thumbnail usually makes a better product hero than a supplier's flat-lay. On most themes you also have to attach it to the first variant, not just reorder the gallery — the gallery jumps to the selected variant's image, so reordering alone silently does nothing.

What I'd tell you to do this week

Pick your three best-selling products. For each one, take the actual product photo, generate a 15-second image-to-video clip of it on a person in a real setting, add captions, and post it to every platform you have with the product URL in the caption. Then do it again tomorrow with three more.

Do that for two weeks before you judge anything. One clip tells you nothing; thirty tells you which angle your audience responds to, and that's the only feedback worth acting on.

Dropshipping sharpens all of this, because the supplier photo on your store is the same asset every competitor is running. Video is the cheapest way out of that - but only if it is generated from the exact variant photo rather than from a prose description, which will confidently invent a different garment and cost you the click and the sale. The number that changes how you build this is the split between the render and everything after it. On my own pipeline one finished 15-second vertical product clip costs about 40 credits, and the render is essentially all of it — the voiceover, the burned captions, the music bed and the branded end card run locally on ffmpeg and cost nothing. If your finishing steps bill per clip, you have built it wrong, because every euro of per-clip cost is one fewer attempt in a game where outcome variance is wide enough that volume beats the quality of any single try.
